Workshop department forms an integral part of the Institution as it is heavily involved in carrying out the practical oriented study of various manufacturing activities with the help of some sophisticated equipments and machineries and tools.
Basic Engineering workshop curriculum is framed in all engineering diploma programmes so as to make all the students proficient in the use of hand tools, equipments and machineries in various workshop sections like Fitting shop,Sheet metal shop,Welding,Carpentry, Pattern making ,Smithy,Foundry,Electrical Shop,Electronics,Computer shop Machine Shop, Turning Shop etc.
Also with the assistance of quality supporting staff, students are able to carry out the fabrication work for their project work as part of their course study. Workshop is backbone of engineering.
Fitting Shop
In fitting shop various processes like drilling, reaming, counter boring, grinding are performed on metals to give them desired shape and size to fit them with mating parts. Both ferrous and non ferrous metals are dealt in this section.
Sheet Metal Shop
Sheet metal Shop provides with the necessary skills and techniques to work in the sheet metal fabrication occupation, giving you instruction in the use of portable sheet metal working equipments, shearing machines etc. learn to create various sheet metal joints, trays, cups, ducts etc.
Welding Shop
A well maintained and advanced Welding section is another attraction of the General Workshop. Welding Provides hands on introduction to the common welding processes used in industry such as Arc welding, Oxy-acetylene Gas welding, MIG,TIG, Spot welding as well as appropriate safety precautions.
Carpentry/Pattern Shop
Carpentry is a skilled trade in which the primary work performed is the use of wood to construct items as patterns (for moulding and castings), Wooden joints and other wooden utility items. Students are trained to work on wood working machines, lathe machine, belt sander and other various hand tools.
Smithy Shop
In well equipped smithy shop, the students are trained to shape metal in either cold state or hot state by hammering. They are also made familiar to various heat treatment processes like annealing, hardening, tempering etc.
Electronics Shop
In this shop, students become familiar with making basic electrical measurements using instruments such as digital multimeters , function generators, and oscilloscopes. Once they have developed some competence in the use of these instruments, students begin learning how basic components such as resistors, diodes, transistors, and capacitors function and soldered on printed circuit boards.
Electrical Shop
In this shop, students become familiar with single / three phase power supply, basic hand tools used in house wiring, servicing and repairing of air cooler, auto electric water heaters , iron heater fans , soldering and desoldering of components and wires etc.
Machine/Turning Shop
Machine shop is the heart and soul of mechanical and automobile engineering diplomas. Here the raw material is cut and shaped by removing the layer of material on different machines. Students are trained to perform various machining operations such as turning, shaping, milling, slotting, grinding etc.
Foundry Shop
Here students are given training in preparation of moulding sand and mould making. Foundry is one of the manufacturing process by which a desired shape of metal is obtained by heating up to its liquid state and pouring into mould cavity. After solidification the metal piece becomes casting.
COMPUTER SHOP
In computer shop basic knowledge of, keyboard, monitor, CPU, mouse, printer, scanner, and their working, is given to 1st year students. After undergoing the training in this shop the students are able to:
* Identify various computer components.
*Describe and differentiate various Motherboard Processors, RAM, Secondary storage devices.
*Install various components of computer.
*Maintain and repair (troubleshoot) various computer components.
*Assemble and de-assemble computer system. Install operating system i.e. MS-Window and Linux
*Diagnose the various faults in computer.
*Set-up a low cost computer centre.
*Install and configure various applications of software.
*Identify various viruses and clean the system using various antivirus software’s.
